I’m really enjoying playing the stripped-down shows of songs and stories. Following up on the Amnesty International benefit in Sydney last week I will be headlining a show at the big international Ubud Writers & Readers Festival in Bali, this Friday night, 20th October. For those attending the festival I’m playing at the BetelNut Bali venue from 8-9.30pm, supported by the amazing songwriter Joviana Gutteres from Timor Leste. Jovi has previously supported all kinds of artists including Joss Stone. Many of the songs will have a social justice theme, as well as coffee, the VW bus song, motorbike taxi drivers in Jakarta and the art of surfing a tsunami!

Last Saturday night I was very happy to play a totally unplugged set to support Amnesty International, which is also a close partner of our non-profit organization, Asia Justice and Rights (AJAR.)  I did a session of original songs and the stories behind them in an old church, now called Humph Hall, supported by DC’s fantastic fingerpicking and slide guitar. Just voices and guitars without any amplification is a great way to test the strength of the songs and the audience was very appreciative.
